A thorough review of the literature reveals that there is a paucity of studies on integrating wisdom and sustainability disciplines. This paper investigates the role of sustainability in fostering wisdom in the interaction between businesses and their surrounding environment. Wisdom has recently attracted a lot of attention in both academia and the practical world. However, despite the strong emphasis that is put on the necessity of incorporating wisdom into business practices, there is little on how wisdom can be practically integrated in the real business world. To address this issue, this paper draws a linkage between wisdom and sustainability by noting the assumptions that the concepts of wisdom and sustainability share with respect to human flourishing, environmental preservation and economic growth. It is concluded that wisdom manifests through organizational sustainability, and that wisdom promotes organizational sustainability capacity. A model of the interaction between the two practices is proposed. Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd and ERP Environment
