This article deals with decision processes concerning who shall speak in discussions in living systems at the level of the group. It presents a model of participation in discussion, aimed at explaining the deviations observed in testing earlier models dealing with this question. The deviations are accounted for by lack of homogeneity of the group of discussants, who may form not one, but two (or more) subgroups, each with its own ranking.
