The growth of data banks and possibilities for secondary analysis have made the development of techniques for generalizing from one group of individuals to another particularly desirable. Thus, when extensive survey data on villagers are available, it would be useful to be able to make reasonable predictions as to the distribution of urban attitudes on the same questions asked of the rural respondents. Such a technique is described here and applied to Turkish survey data dealing with various attitudes deemed important for an understanding of the modernization process. Problems of model fit and the possibilities for utilizing this methodology with other data sets are discussed.
