The Stanley R. Dean Research Award is given each year to emphasize the importance of basic research toward an understanding of schizophrenia and to recognize a scientist who has made an important contribution in this area. The fifth annual award was presented posthumously to Dr. Franz Josef Kallmann and received by Mrs. Kallmann at the Department of Psychiatry of The University of Michigan, May 24, 1966. Following is the talk given on this occasion by Dr. John D. Rainer—an evaluative summary of Dr. Kallmann's lifetime of research in the genetics of schizophrenia.
