Abstract Heretofore communication systems have evolved and adapted themselves to the development and growth of the social system. In this article the relationships between four factors important in such development and growth are discussed. It is pointed out that some societies, over‐zealous to attain modernization, may attempt radical departure from these historical relationships with resultant imbalances and possible breakdowns in the social system.
