With the advent of television, the impact of information disseminated by such media upon the general public has aroused much interest and speculation. This study presents a comparison of the opinions about mental health problems held by experts (psychologists and psychiatrists) and the general public with the points of view expressed and portrayed in the mass media of communication. A content analysis of the media indicates that it presents ideas about mental health which are further removed from the opinions of experts than are the opinions held by the average man.
