Paracoccus denitrificans was grown with either (1‐ 13 C)glucose (92 atom%) or (6‐ 13 C)glucose (92 atom%) as the sole source of carbon for growth. The distribution of label in a wide range of compounds extracted from cells was determined by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry. At least three pathways of glucose oxidation were operative during growth on the ( 13 C)glucose substrates. The balance of fluxes of carbon from (1‐ 13 C)glucose through the three glucose oxidation pathways was substantially different from that from (6‐ 13 C)glucose.
