A series of biologically active steroids was analyzed by both, ‘filament on’ thermospray using 100% methanol as the mobile phase with ammonium acetate as buffer, and direct chemical ionization with NH 3 gas. The mass spectra obtained were very similar. Addition of pyridine instead of ammonium acetate showed selectivity in adding to the steroid molecule.
