The three positional isomers of unmodified dedecenols (δ 2 ‐δ 4 ) have been analysed by conventional combined gas chromatography/electron impact mass spectrometry. The intensity ratios of certain selected pairs of predominant fragment ions, whose relative intensities vary with the position of the original double bond, are of diagnostic value for the identification of double bond positions. The determination of the double bond positions in dodecenols has therefore been established.
