The mechanisms of electron impact fragmentation obtained with selected substituted uracils are discussed. The interpretation of data was substantiated by use of 15 N labelled molecules. Results are in accordance with more general decomposition of simple pyrimidine ions. Fragmentation patterns are characteristic of the position of substituents such as 1‐ and 3‐methyl or C‐5‐ or N‐6‐acetyl. Thus accurate knowledge of these spectra provides useful information for determining the structure of isomeric forms or substituted derivatives of this series.
