Fast atom bombardment mass spectra of a series of phospholipids are reported. Abundant molecular ions are noted together with fragment ions which provide structural information about the acyl and phosphate ester groupings. The application of fast atom bombardment mass spectrometry to the analysis of complex phospholipid(phosphatidylcholine) mixtures is discussed.
