Dimethylphosphate esters of vitamins D 2 and D 3 and of 7‐dehydrocholesterol give satisfactory mass spectra under electron impact using the direct introduction probe, while this method is not suitable for the related phosphorodichloridates, which undergo to thermal decomposition‐polymerization processes. Such processes are avoided using the direct electron impact method. Abundant molecular ions or their protonated analogues are obtained by field desorption.
