Gas chromatography mass spectrometry was used to characterize compounds observed throughout the synthesis of a cis ‐fused 3′,4′‐dichlorophenyl bicyclo‐octane, a potential CNS acting drug substance. An ortho chloro‐effect identified the isomeric 2′,4′‐dichlorophenyl impurities.
