The dimethyl derivatives of clonidine and [ 2 H 4 ]clonidine give good chemical ionization mass spectra when ammonia is used as reagent gas. A gas chromatographic mass spectrometric selected ion monitoring assay for the estimation of clonidine in plasma and urine using ammonia chemical ionization is described.
