Chromatographic properties and mass spectrometric fragmentation of dioxygenated C 27 ‐, C 28 ‐, C 29 ‐steroids

Group separation of C 27 ‐, C 28 ‐ and C 29 ‐steroids on lipophilic Sephadex gels followed by thin‐layer chromatographic and gas chromatographic separation within groups is described for 165 different dioxygenated steroids. The mass spectrometric fragmentation patterns for all C 27 ‐, C 28 ‐ and C 29 ‐steroids have been summarized. The emphasis has been laid on the systematic identification of steroids from metabolic experiments.
