2‐[ S ‐( N ‐Acetyl)cysteine]‐isopropylacetanilide sulfoxide was isolated from the exrcreta of germfree rats given oral doses of 2‐chloro‐ N ‐isopropylacetanilide. The metabolite was characterized by mass and nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometry on samples isolated from rats dosed with [1‐ 14 C]‐ and [2‐ 13 C]‐2‐chloro‐ N ‐isopropylacetanilide. Artifact formation upon reaction of the sulfoxide with alcoholic HCl is discussed.
