Several androgenic progestins and corticosteroids were oxidized to the corresponding carbonyl‐containing compounds. Oxidation was achieved by treatment with chromium trioxide under acidic conditions. The oxidation products were studied by gas chromatography and mass spectrometry. The gas chromatographic method was found to be very rapid because of the short retention times of the oxidation products. It was also found to be very sensitive for submicrogram levels. Mass spectral studies proved the structure of the products.
