Phenylacetic acid has been detected in human cerebrospinal fluid and plasma. Free acid and total acid values obtained after hydrolysis have been quantified as the pentafluorobenzyl ester by selected ion monitoring, using [ 2 H 7 ]phenylacetic acid as internal standard.
