The reaction products of trifluoroacetic anhydride with peptide amides are identified as stable heterocyclic imidazolin‐5(4)‐ones, which can be analysed by gas chromatography mass spectrometry. The mass spectra show intense molecular ions and allow the assignment of the amino acid sequence.
