A simple pyrone‐based fluorophore was designed for ratiometric detection of β‐galactosidase. Upon reaction with the enzyme, the probe underwent a dramatic ratiometric optical change and exhibited dramatic color and fluorescence changes capable of quantitative detection of β‐galactosidase.
