The ability of Bacillus subtilis to accumulate guanosine 5′‐monophosphate (5′‐GMP) extracellularly was demonstrated by isolation of 85% pure 5′‐GMP from the broth. In addition, a compound with the properties of guanosine 5′ diphosphate was obtained from the same broth.
