Gene mutation detection and identification are conducive for detection of disease. He, Sunil and team report the electronic characteristics of the gene of breast cancer 1 in four common mutation types: duplication, single nucleotide variation, deletion and indel. The HOMO (left) and HOMO‐1 (right) distribution for TCACAAGCA (above) and TCACXAGCA (below) explain the largest decrease in conductance upon deletion of an AT base pair. Each mutation shows a distinct change in conductance which can be used to identify the mutation. The results open up a new possibility for designing an efficient and low‐cost sensor for electronically detecting DNA mutations. (DOI: 10.1002/bip.23465 )
