The design delivers the highlight of our review— using Pichia pastoris as whole‐cell catalyst for chemical production, exemplified by the oxidation of lactate. Lactate is diffused into the peroxisome and oxidized into pyruvate and H 2 O 2 by the 2‐hydroxyacid oxidase. The co‐localized catalase removes accumulated H 2 O 2 and regenerates O 2 for further reaction. We adopted the pencil sketch effect for the EM picture of a budding yeast, and used it as background. The grey shadow in the background represents the peroxisomes where the enzymes reside. This is reported by Taicheng Zhu, Hongbing Sun, Meiyu Wang, and Yin Li in article 1800694 .
