It is suggested to test against anisoasymmetry rather than against marginal homogeneity if (1) a pre‐post treatment matched pairs contingency table is ordinally scaled by clinical ratings and if (2) the alternative to marginal homogeneity is a shift in location from pre‐ to post treatment ratings. Testing against anisoasymmetry may detect treatment effects which are not manifest in marginal inhomogeneities.
