A general statistical model for the analysis of ordered discrete phenotypes given a multifactorial mode of inheritance is outlined. This model can be applied to give (i) components of variance and covariance for various genetic and environmental effects that are eatimable from the genetic sampling design, (ii) a factor analysis structure, and (iii) regression estimates for description of the relationship among the genetic and environmental factors.
