The present study begins with a discussion of a topic frequently mentioned in the relevant literature, namely the division of multiple regression models with two predictors into five mutually excluding categories. The theoretical basis for this classification is criticized and a system of three mutually excluding categories is suggested which is free of the criticized inconsistencies.
