A test is developed to determine whether the mean survival times are equal when dealing with paired survival data. We assume the data follow a bivariate exponential distribution for which the variables are conditionally independent. The unconditional distribution is derived in which the distribution of the nuissance variable is general. A method based on the likelihood ratio is derived to obtain the test. The data are allowed to have both left and right censoring.
