The results of studying the properties of cell kinetics indicators by computer simulation methods are reported. Two problems are considered, one concerning investigation into the efficiency and robustness of the procedure earlier proposed by us (YAKOVLEV et al., 1977) for estimating the so‐called q ‐index which characterizes the integral flow of cells into a given mitotic cycle phase. The other problem is substantiation of the way to form mathematical expectations of the indices of cell cycle phases. Discussion of the results of simulation experiments is preceded by analytical solutions of some of the simpler cases of such problems with the use of the theory of multitype age‐dependent branching stochastic processes.
