L EHMACHER & W ALL'S (1978) example of the application of a rank test for the comparison of two independent samples of response curves is reanalyzed by P YHEL'S (1980) permutation test for the hypothesis of parallelism of response curves. This permutation test is part of a complete evaluation of effects for a split‐plot design using the permutation test based procedure by W ILLMES & P YHEL (1981). Differences in test decisions are discussed.
