Pearce (1976) proposed the use of the variance matrix for design block experiments. Jones (1976) gave an iterative formula for, but stated that the iteration failed to converge for some block designs. We derive necessary and sufficient conditions for the convergence of JONES' iteration. We also note that a simple modification to JONES' iteration will ensure its convergence.
