This article deals with a special kind of ambiguity of the optimal configuration calculated with the MDSCAL procedure. These configurations – the so‐called partial isometric solutions – are not restricted to the use of the MDSCAL procedure; they may always occur when using Minkowski metrics. For the City Block metric and the Supremum metric examples are demonstrated.
