Three multifunctional protein kinases, cyclic AMP‐dependent protein kinase, protein kinase C, and calmodulin‐dependent protein kinase II, are involved in signal transduction in response to their respective second messengers, cyclic AMP, diacylglycerol, and Ca 2+ . This review will summarize the key findings on calmodulin‐dependent protein kinase II.
