Abstract Science and Society presents discussions and commentaries on the broader implications of contemporary biological research. In an earlier article, Walter F. Bodmer presented the case for a major commitment on the part of the scientific community to the sequencing of the human genome ( Bioessays 7 , 41–45, July, 1987). In the following article, Robert A. Weinberg takes a critical look at the human genome project.
