In article 2100121, František Baluška and Arthur Reber expand their cellular basis of consciousness (CBC) model by integrating it with cellular circadian clocks. The CBC model argues that all known life is based on sentient cells. Here the authors examine the role that temporal factors and natural cycles likely played in the formation of the first life forms. Baluška and Reber propose that the development of the multi‐cellularity of eukaryotic cells was a necessary consequence of integrated symbiotic supracellular clocks and sentience.
