Microautophagy is an autophagic process driven by lysosomal or endosomal membrane movements. Based on the membrane dynamics and molecular machineries, microautophagy is categorized into 3 modes as shown by the sequential drawings (article number 1800008 by Masahide Oku and Yasuyoshi Sakai). The electron microscopy image demonstrates vacuolar protrusion, characteristic of one of the modes. [Illustration, Ms. Shiolly Katayama].
