Knowledge and the History of Science . This essay asks how the object of history of knowledge could be delineated so as to keep it distinct from the history of science (that has always dealt with knowledge) and, at the same time, to keep it specific enough not to turn into a general history of all human activities. By way of discussing the type of knowledge we could call ‘scientific’, and arguing that history of science should take an integrative approach, I propose that a history of knowledge should focus on generalizing accounts taken in most various domains and cultures.
