On the correspondence between Karl Jaspers and Heinrich Behnke. – In summer 1922 the mathematician Heinrich Behnke (1898–1979) attended lectures by the philosopher Karl Jaspers (1883–1969). This marked the beginning of a friendship over more than 40 years. This article will describe the essential topics of the correspondence between Jaspers and Behnke. Two topics will be pointed out: First their relationship which was characterized by their experiences and sorrows – especially during the Nazi regime. Second their discussion on researching and giving lectures. By this Jaspers' book Die Idee der Universität was the focus of interest.
