Classical net energy analysis does not define “net energy” as Dr. Pimentel has defined it. Classical net energy analysis has limited value. Dr. Pimentel's use of net energy to attack biofuels is irrelevant, misleading and even dangerous in a world struggling to find alternatives to petroleum. © 2008 Society of Chemical Industry and John Wiley & Sons, Ltd
