Board members resign from their positions for a wide variety of reasons. For executive directors (EDs), departing directors can be a good thing, or bad, depending on how engaged the director was in his or her duties and how valuable the director was to the organization. In some cases, EDs are neutral or even a little relieved to see a director move on from the organization. But in other cases, they may wish to persuade them to stay on—a task that can be tricky.
