Key Takeaways If community water systems can easily access information about hazardous chemical storage in their source water protection area (SWPA) and know how to make full use of the data, they stand a better chance of sufficiently preparing for source water emergencies. Required under the Emergency Planning and Community Right‐to‐Know Act, annual Tier II reports contain valuable information about specific hazardous chemicals that are stored or used in SWPAs. Provisions in America's Water Infrastructure Act of 2018 give community water systems a legal right to Tier II hazardous chemical inventory data for facilities in their SWPA, which can be used to promote comprehensive source water protection planning.
