Abstract Faculty involvement is critical to the success of assessment in Virginia, according to Margaret A. Miller, assistant director for academic programs, State Council of Higher Education. It is important, however, to differentiate assessment from other forms of evaluation, Miller says, m order to justify to faculty the time they are asked to spend on it arid to persuade them to take its results seriously for purposes of program reform.
