The author advocates public support of innovation in transportation systems that would enhance the livability of cities. He calls for renewed exploration of the utility of introducing auto‐free zones in dense urban places, and the initiation of development of a PRT‐like system that could ultimately displace the free‐wheeling motor vehicle in these places.
