A cost‐benefit analysis of a bridge is presented. The bridge is planned to connect Gotland, a Swedish tourist resort in the middle of the Baltic Sea, with Fårö, a small island to the north of Gotland. Persistent unemployment problems on Fårö are a complicating factor considered in the calculations. The result is that construction of a bridge according to the designs which have been considered so far is not economically efficient. With another design, however, it might be worthwhile.
