Fiber bursts occur as special fine structures in solar type–IV radio bursts. They represent an important diagnostic tool for the coronal plasma, especially for determining magnetic field strengths in the solar corona. In this paper the physical understanding of this fine structure and related phenomena is briefly reviewed.
