We briefly describe the issues and problems related to gathering our astronomical plates in one place – and preserving them. For a variety of reasons, they have not been properly preserved or stored in the past, which led to significant damages and losses. The general condition of the plates is discussed here, together with our most recent findings and future plans to use them for science.
