In this review we discuss helioseismology as a probe of the solar activity cycle, highlighting in particular results on studies of the recent, unusual solar minimum. We then discuss the solar‐stellar connection, in the context of the potential for performing asteroseismic studies of stellar activity cycles of solar‐type stars using data from Kepler , CoRoT and groundbased observations.
