Abstract From published data on X‐ray sources identified with clusters of galaxies the X‐ray luminosity function of the clusters was derived to ϕ x ˜ L x ‐0.8 in the range 10 43 ≦ L x ≦ (2–3) · 10 45 ergs/s. For L x > 3 · 10 45 ergs/s the function decreases abruptly.
