Empirical model atmospheres on the basis of MIHALAS models were investigated. If the temperature of the outer layers in a spot is higher than in the surrounding normal atmosphere and lower than in the deeper layers, many characteristics of the observed amplitude‐wavelength relation of magnetic stars can be explained.
