The mean interstellar extinction is derived from 55 high‐latitude stars ( b ≧ 60°) of luminosity class V to Āv = − 0 m .002 ± 0 m .020 (m.e.) much smaller than follows from a cosec‐law. In the area under consideration the reddening shows no dependence on galactic latitude. It might be possible, that the cosec‐law is not fulfilled to the highest latitudes, and therefore, the value of the extinction at the pole which is derived from such a law is too high.
