For the purpose of determining the division corrections for a declination circle a general symmetric method is established. The calculation of the corrections from the measurements is based on the method of least squares and can conveniently be carried out by an electronic computer. When 3 microscope pairs are used simultaneously at the determination, compared with the usual 2 pairs, it is shown that the correction of a circle with 5′ divisions can be determined with about 17000 readings and an efficiency of 0.38, i. e., 1.7 times higher than with the hitherto best technique, which required nearly 50000 readings.
